Elizabeth K. Levin

Liz is President of Liz Levin & Company, a management consulting company that serves the transportation, design, and environmental communities. Founded in 2003, Liz Levin & Company provides services in leadership, organizational development, and strategy. The work includes change management, strategic planning, succession planning, and market repositioning. Liz also serves as an Executive in Residence at Brandeis International Business School.

Experience

Prior to forming Liz Levin & Company, Liz served as Senior Vice President and Principal of Rizzo Associates, which was sold to Tetra Tech. The following are highlights of her career (1985–2001) at Rizzo Associates and Rizzo Associates/Tetra Tech.

  • Served as Group Leader for Transportation and Environmental Permitting, which included transportation planning, highway design, municipal roads and signals, structural design, and environmental studies. Re-energized the group after the departure of a dynamic leader. Developed new leadership, built a sizeable backlog of work, and improved profitability.
  • Directed the strategic marketing and business planning behind Rizzo Associates’ successful rise to the top of the region’s transportation, engineering, and environmental industry. Instrumental in the growth of the business to a $26-million, 215-person firm.
  • Diversified the business into new market areas. Played a key leadership role in shifting Rizzo Associates’ client base from predominantly private sector to a profitable mix of public and private work. Oversaw geographic expansion of the firm.
  • Managed and/or directed high profile multidisciplinary projects including Massport’s Logan Airport Intermodal Connector Project; Boston College’s 10-year Master Plan and Stadium Expansion; the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority’s (MWRA) Watershed Protection Program for the Boston Metropolitan Area; and the MWRA Siting Studies for the Wachusett Water Treatment Plant.

Liz worked at Metcalf & Eddy from 1972–1985. She managed the environmental planning group and played a key role in some of M&E’s signature projects of the time, including EPA’s Region I Mission Contract; Boston Water and Sewer Commission’s Wastewater Facilities Plan; the City of Austin’s Water and Wastewater Plan; the City of San Antonio’s Program for the Protection of the Edwards Aquifer; and the MWRA’s Siting Studies for Nut Island, Long Island, and Deer Island. Liz developed a reputation for effective management, outreach, and consensus building on controversial infrastructure and environmental projects.

Prior to M&E, Liz worked for state, local, and federal agencies in housing and urban development.
