Liz Levin Leadership Salon Series— When Nice Ladies Finish First

January 22, 2009

Dear Clients, Colleagues, and Friends,

It is my pleasure to announce with joy Liz’s 2009 Leadership Salon Series—When Nice Ladies Finish First. This series is inspired by the women leaders I know who are truly nice to their core. They create a leadership style in their organizations that is built on their caring for and understanding of people. These women finish first not despite their niceness but because of their niceness. In this year of tough economic times and difficult choices, this series is designed to showcase leaders who can lift us up, make us smile, and encourage us to be kinder to each other every day. The speakers are:

This series is in honor of my mother, Violet Raum, who is 96. Widowed at 41 with three young children, she dedicated her life as a mother and a lawyer to raising children who were ethical and nice.

Warm Regards,

Liz Levin, President

speaker statement

I have a sign in my office that reads: “Be Nice or Leave.” Throughout my career, I’ve often heard from supervisors, “you’re too nice.” Fortunately, I decided to ignore their advice to adopt a tougher, less caring attitude. I think this is a trap for women leaders in particular, and luckily I have found a company that embraces values such as compassion, teamwork, and respect.

If I had to sum up my leadership style in one word, it would be “positive.” I have found that leadership attributes such as honesty, integrity, humility, communication, empathy, and demonstrating values (walking the talk) are highly prized and effective.
